“Das Neunte Kind der Mrs. D.” directed by Ria Marks, Live at Muziekgebouw as part of Cello Biennale Amsterdam - Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Das Neunte Kind der Mrs. D - Creative Performance Lab, a masters elective, presents a multidisciplinary performance at the Cello Biënnale, created under guidance of Ria Marks. Saying 'Farewell' is the theme of this performance, based on Heinrich Böll's short story 'Das Neunte Kind der Mrs. D', from his 'Irish Diary '(1957).

A family on the Irish west coast. Nine children: only a few of them will have the chance to stay in Ireland. Five or six children will have to leave to build up their lives elsewhere. When they turn fourteen, they will stand at the bus stop with a small suitcase, embrace their mother, take the bus, travel far away to an uncle, maybe in the United states. The bus driver, knowing that an accomplished farewell is easier to bear than an approaching farewell, prudently hoops.
